Call for Papers
We are pleased to announce that the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Novi Sad, is organising The Tenth International Interdisciplinary Symposium “ENCOUNTER OF CULTURES” which is to be held on 30 November 2018 at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad. This years’ Symposium will be a celebration of two significant events: the 200th anniversary of the first edition of The Serbian Dictionary by Vuk Stefanović Karadžić, and the 90th birthday of the world’s leading linguist Noam Chomsky. Having that in mind, two thematic blocks are going to be of particular prominence at our Symposium: one for the papers with topics related to The Serbian Dictionary in various ways, and the other, with the papers that cover some of the aspects of multidisciplinary activities of Noam Chomsky. Therefore, we would like to ask the participants to fit the topics of their papers, if possible, in one of the two thematic wholes.
At the same time, as always, the aim of this Symposium is to gather scholars and professionals from various areas of social sciences and humanities from the country and abroad, to encourage and promote intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogue and to develop an international network of scholars. This would be achieved through presenting and discussing the results of interdisciplinary research in social sciences and humanities. Since such research requires taking into account different (social and political, psychological, cultural, etc.) contexts, the topics of the Symposium include the following:
· Relations between Individuals and Groups in Cultural Contexts;
· Forming Individuals and Groups within a Culture (Identity, Interculturalism and Multiculturalism);
- Relations between the Culture and the Social Systems (Education, Creativity, Media);
- Language and Literature as Culture Phenomena;
- Local and Global in the Culture;
- Information and Communication Technologies in Humanities and Social Sciences;
- History and Culture – Contexts and Intertwining;
- Semantics, Culture and Cognition;
- Culture, the Individual, Society;
- Cultural Contexts in Foreign Language Teaching.
The application form for the Symposium is available here. The deadline for application is 23 October 2018. The applications received after this deadline will not be considered.
We welcome the proposals from the following areas of study: language and literature, history, psychology, pedagogy, sociology and media studies.
